On-Site MRI

Orthopaedics East & Sports Medicine Center leases a 1.5T mobile MRI system that is permanently located on our premises and is available 5 days a week for the convenience of our patients. Highly trained radiologists read and interpret the images in conjunction with our doctors to chart the best plan of treatment. You can arrange appointments with our staff.

MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging, and having an on-site MRI facility prevents patients from having to travel to separate radiology centers and allows our physicians to more rapidly access MRI results. Obtaining results sooner enables earlier diagnosis and formulation of a treatment plan to get our patients on the road to recovery.

Benefits of MRI in Comparison to X-ray

mri4[1].jpgWhereas X-ray is sufficient for evaluating the bones, MRI is a more effective way of imaging the soft tissues including muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Thus, MRI is typically the preferred method for evaluating joint injuries. In addition, MRI does not use damaging ionizing radiation like X-ray. Instead, MRI images are obtained using strong magnets that detect changes in the magnetic field of the tissues. [NIH]
